Breaking News...
It's official..
The Lemmings have Arts Council funding to produce their Giant Book Project.
The first book will be "Whales Tales" an adaptation of "Moby Dick".

Imagine a giant book standing in front of the audience.
A story teller opens the book and we see words and illustrations on the open pages.
The performance begins and then the illustrations start to move and flicker into life.
We realize that the illustration is in fact an animated film, then the animated film merges into real
film and we are watching an actor screened on the page of the book.
Even stranger; when the actor points, his hand emerges from the page of the book and we now see
film merge with reality.
Soon the characters from the story step seamlessly in and out of the illustration on the books pages to tell the story in truly spectacular
fashion using on-stage performance, film and animation.
Storms at sea or battles can be recreated vividly in this context, in a small space and with a small cast of actors.
The story could be anything from "Macbeth" to "Moby Dick". Three actors will play
the characters and the context will be created with animation and film.
The creative task is to make the pages of a giant book spring to life by "crossing
the celluloid divide"; a technique where performers step in and out of film sequences;
in this case projected as illustrations on the book's pages. The technique was devised
by Forkbeards Fantasy who are going to act as mentors to the Grand Theatre of Lemmings
for this project, which we feel will definitely push the boundaries of outdoor theatre.
Arty Party
'Arty Party' a new project aided and abetted by the Lemmings.
This summer the Lemmings are being pro-active in helping a group youngsters in their home town of Manningtree to
organize a Youth festival to coincide with Manningtree festival itself. The Youth group
have managed to raise a small grant and will organize various art workshops as well as a
'Big Manningtree Beach Extravaganza'. Further details to follow.
